Meta is testing a new artificial intelligence powered storytelling app called StoryKit, expanding the company’s AI ambitions into children’s entertainment and family activities.
The app, currently being piloted in select countries, enables parents to generate personalised bedtime stories by providing a few simple prompts. According to its App Store listing, users can create custom storybooks featuring original characters, settings, life lessons and background music without writing the story themselves.
To generate a story, parents can upload a photograph of a favourite toy or person to create a character, describe the world in which the story takes place and select a lesson such as kindness, courage or empathy. The AI then produces a complete illustrated storybook based on those inputs.
Meta confirmed the pilot to TechCrunch, describing StoryKit as a creative storytelling application designed to help families create personalised storybooks. The company said the app includes AI safety filters, has no social features and is available only to users aged 18 and above during the testing phase.
The launch represents another step in the rapid expansion of consumer AI products beyond traditional productivity tools. Generative AI has already become widely used for writing, coding, image creation and research. StoryKit applies the same technology to storytelling, allowing parents to generate unique bedtime stories tailored to a child’s interests in real time.
The app may appeal to families looking for new stories that reflect a child’s favourite characters, hobbies or values. At the same time, it is likely to prompt discussion about the growing role of AI in activities traditionally shaped by human creativity and interaction.
For Meta, StoryKit also reflects a broader strategy of embedding generative AI into everyday consumer experiences rather than limiting it to standalone chatbots.
