Indian Railways has ordered the cancellation of all Mail and Express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10. The railways cited the possibility of severe road traffic congestion around the two stations.
The cancellations also apply to trains that start from their originating stations after 2 pm on October 9. In an order issued on October 9, the railways said all such trains reaching the two stations on October 10, between 04:00 hrs and 14:00 hrs, are to be cancelled at source.
Separately, Delhi Police has asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to reduce train frequency. It has also asked DMRC to close entry and exit gates at 57 metro stations from 9 pm on October 9 until the situation normalises on October 10. Police cited proposed protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations. They also cited the possibility of unruly crowds moving towards sensitive areas.
The stations include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, New Delhi, Kashmere Gate, Mandi House, ITO, Patel Chowk and Supreme Court, among others. The advisory also covers stations on multiple metro lines, including Hauz Khas, Lajpat Nagar, Jamia Millia Islamia and Sarai Kale Khan–Nizamuddin. The restrictions will stay in place until the situation normalises, according to the police letter dated October 8.
The CJP has announced a youth-led protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10 over alleged “vote theft”.
