Uma Kashvi creates WPL history at 15 as Delhi Capitals sign young allrounder for ₹10 lakh

Uma Kashvi became the youngest player to secure a contract in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) after Delhi Capitals signed the 15-year-old allrounder for ₹10 lakh at the 2027 auction in Kochi on Wednesday.

Aged 15 years and 202 days, Kashvi made history at an otherwise quiet auction, where franchises largely focused on filling gaps in their existing squads. Listed in the uncapped allrounders category, she attracted an opening bid of ₹10 lakh from Delhi Capitals. With no competing offers from the other four franchises, Delhi secured her services at the base price.

Kashvi filled one of Delhi’s five available squad slots as the franchise continued to strengthen its roster with young talent.

Until Wednesday, Deeya Yadav held the record as the youngest player to earn a WPL contract. She was also signed by Delhi Capitals for ₹10 lakh at the 2026 auction, aged 16. Anshu Nagar and Avanya Jain, both 15, were also part of the 2027 auction but went unsold.

Who is Uma Kashvi?

Born on April 9, 2011, Kashvi is a right-handed batter and right-arm off-spinner. She came into the spotlight through her performances in the recent series between India Under-19 and Sri Lanka Under-19.

She claimed four wickets across three T20Is and added two more wickets in two ODIs, showcasing her ability to contribute with the ball in both formats. Her WPL contract now gives her an opportunity to develop within one of the league’s established franchises.

Delhi Capitals signed Indian batter Kiran Navgire for ₹75 lakh, making her the most expensive Indian player at the auction. They also added Scotland’s Kirstie Gordon for ₹10 lakh alongside Kashvi.

Mumbai Indians picked up uncapped players Latika Inamdar, Disha Kasat and Bharti Rawal for ₹10 lakh each. Gujarat Giants signed G Kamalini for ₹40 lakh and Ireland allrounder Orla Prendergast for ₹30 lakh.
