FIR registered against Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi over Akashvani Bhawan protest

An FIR has been registered against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over their entry into Akashvani Bhawan during a protest. Delhi Police received a complaint from Akashvani staffers against the two leaders, along with the MPs and others who were with them. The complaint says they forced their way into the Akashvani office.

Rahul and Priyanka were briefly detained on Tuesday night. This came after a sit-in of more than eight hours at the Akashvani Bhawan premises.

The protest began when police stopped INDIA bloc MPs from marching to the Election Commission’s office, about 300 metres away. The MPs were raising allegations of “vote chori”. During the march from Parliament, Rahul climbed on top of barricades as opposition MPs shouted “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod”. Priyanka, NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule and other opposition leaders also joined the march. Security personnel stopped the MPs near the NITI Aayog office. Parliament and the EC office were heavily barricaded.

Rahul entered the All India Radio premises on Parliament Street around noon and joined the protest. Police later removed him and several other Congress leaders and MPs by force. These included K C Venugopal, Charanjit Singh Channi, Pawan Khera, K Suresh, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Deepender Hooda, Praniti Shinde, Varsha Gaekwad and Imran Pratapgarhi.
