‘Makhi Janta Party’ gains 3.3 lakh Instagram followers in 72 hours after CJI’s ‘Hammer to Kill a Fly’ remark

A new satirical outfit called the Makhi Janta Party has emerged on Instagram, gaining over 3.3 lakh followers and 40 lakh views within 72 hours. The name – “makhi” means fly in Hindi  is a direct response to CJI Surya Kant’s remark during a Supreme Court hearing on October 9, when his bench questioned the scale of security deployment in Delhi ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s planned protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar. The bench observed that authorities cannot halt everything, likening it to using a “hammer to kill a fly.”

The MJP follows the template set by the Cockroach Janta Party, which itself was born from the CJI’s May 2026 remark comparing a section of youth to “cockroaches.” CJP went on to amass over 22 million Instagram followers, organised sustained protests at Jantar Mantar over exam irregularities, and played a role in forcing the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The CJI’s courtroom remarks have now spawned two separate satirical movements in under six months.

The MJP page identifies a student named Aaryan as its founder. It has expressed support for CJP and for AISA’s Neha Bora in their demand for CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, and says it is trying to contact CJP for coordinated action. The page also condemned the detention of CJP activists Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das after they entered Jantar Mantar and hoisted the national flag.

One detail worth noting: the Instagram page was originally created in June 2021 and changed its username eight times before becoming makhijantaparty.ig. It was not a fresh account built from scratch in response to the remark – it was a pre-existing page repurposed for the moment.

Whether MJP replicates CJP’s trajectory or fades quickly depends on whether it attaches itself to a concrete grievance the way CJP latched onto exam leaks. For now, what’s more significant is the pattern: every time the CJI makes an unscripted remark that touches a public nerve, it gets turned into a brand name and a movement within hours. The courtroom’s metaphors are leaving the building faster than the judgments.
