Selection has become one of India’s biggest talking points. Despite being named Player of the Tournament during India’s successful World Cup campaign earlier this year, Sanju Samson found himself dropped after three modest scores. At the same time, the team has fast-tracked Sooryavanshi into international cricket, highlighting the difficult balance between rewarding experience and investing in the future.
The series also represents a significant opportunity for England. After losing a home Test series to New Zealand and seeing Ben Stokes retire from international cricket, the hosts have endured a turbulent few weeks. However, taking a 1-0 lead against India has eased some of that pressure, with young all-rounder Jacob Bethell emerging as one of the standout performers.
India now heads to Trent Bridge knowing another defeat would hand England an unassailable lead with two matches still to play. Although the venue has traditionally been known for high-scoring encounters, recent seasons have offered more assistance to bowlers, making adaptability even more important.
For India, the immediate challenge extends beyond the scoreboard. The current losing streak has highlighted tactical inconsistencies, unsettled combinations and the growing pains of transition.
