Delhi Police have registered an FIR against AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, party MLAs, workers and others following a complaint by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC). The complaint alleges that AAP members disrupted the sanctity of Gurdwara Bangla Sahib by staging a political protest on its premises and subsequently circulated misleading videos and social media posts about the incident.
According to the DSGMC’s complaint filed with the Commissioner of Police, AAP workers and supporters entered the gurdwara premises in what it described as a coordinated manner. The complaint alleges that those present raised political slogans and created a disturbance inside the religious site. The DSGMC has urged the police to identify all individuals involved, preserve relevant evidence, and investigate who organised and directed the protest.
Delhi Police have confirmed that the video footage submitted alongside the complaint is being examined.
The incident adds a religious dimension to the already tense political atmosphere in Delhi. Staging political demonstrations at religious sites is a particularly sensitive issue, and the DSGMC’s decision to file a formal complaint signals that the gurdwara management committee viewed the episode as a serious violation rather than a routine political gathering.
For AAP, the FIR comes at a time when the party is already navigating a difficult stretch in Delhi’s political landscape. The case is likely to give the BJP additional ammunition, especially given the religious sensitivity of the venue. How the investigation unfolds and whether the police act on the DSGMC’s demands to identify and book specific individuals will determine whether this remains a procedural matter or escalates into a larger political confrontation.
